Description

Leipzig Square is a square in the center of Berlin, bordering Potsdamer Platz in the west. At the time of Kaiser Germany, the Prussian Ministry of Agriculture was located on the southern side of the square, the Prussian Ministry of Commerce was located on the south-eastern edge, and the maritime ministry was on the northeast. Until 1867, the customs wall separated Leipzig Square from Potsdam Square. At the end of the 19th century, the Wertheim trading house was erected on Leipzig Square. After World War II, the buildings of Leipzig Square were in ruins, which were subsequently demolished. Its construction began only after the unification of Germany in 1990, and the square began to regain an octagonal shape. In 1998, the Mosse Palace appeared. In 2005, the Canadian Embassy entered the new building on Leipzig Square. On September 25, 2014, the multifunctional shopping center LP12 Mall of Berlin opened on the site of the Wertheim shopping center.
